Stick built 2 story house featuring open living space with lots of windows and character. Hand built on-site near a cool freshwater stream that you can hear from the deck and sleeping loft. The first floor is a 20x16ft room with a Swedish wood stove that heats the entire home. Off the back is a large pressure treated deck. The upstairs has a sleeping area with large barn dormers and a small bedroom all with plenty of windows to take in the cool mountain air. There is a screened outdoor kitchen with propane stove top and tile counter. Newly built double outhouse is a short walk from the front porch. The house is wired for electricity (we use a solar panel to charge a marine battery currently) and is insulated.
Much of the building materials were from reclaimed sources including an old tobacco barn and wood library paneling from the home of Paul Green a famous writer from the Chapel Hill, NC area. The house is nestled at the foot of a ridge at about 2800 ft above sea level within 3 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a shared road used by a few houses and a working farm. Access to the house from this gravel road is 4wd for about 150 feet, which could be improved with some gravel. All 4.32 acres are wooded with cherry, hickory, oak and a native magnolia. There are rhododendron and wild flame azaleas throughout with some nice rock outcroppings and a small waterfall. We have been able to dig deep enough to encounter water, so a well should not be an issue at the site. Electricity could be brought to the house if desired. The kitchen could easily be enclosed and an indoor bathroom could be added to the back of the house. The interior has not been painted and the eaves will need to be sealed up. The exterior is clad in hand-milled live edge cypress and tulip poplar from Rollesville, NC. Some of the boards are bowing and could use a sealant and caulking. I’ve owned the land for 10 years and built the house with my best friend. It is solid, built
