Katrina Cottage, Tiny Home, Guest Cottage

Katrina Cottages were built for the displaced families of Hurricane Katrina. Like this one, they are very sturdy structures able to withstand 140-150mph winds. I bought this house about 2 ½ years ago. It had been turned into a multi bathroom stall/shower house, ladies on one end and men on the other. There was no kitchen and most everything had to be redone. But that gave me the opportunity to design it myself. As you can see in the pictures, I created space where there didn't seem to be any. The furniture was bought or built for the house and so most all of it will stay as it offers a great deal of storage with different compartments and shelves. The kitchen is very functional. It has plenty of cabinets and drawers to store your cookware, utensils, towels, etc. A tall double cabinet was installed for use as a pantry. A broom closet is tucked behind it. There are two heavy corner shelves for your china/dinnerware. The stove, as well as an on-demand water heater, runs off propane. The fireplace/entertainment center was built for the space it sits in. It emits a lot of heat and looks lovely when lit. The house comes with a new, never hooked up LG wash tower. It has a small window air conditioner in the hallway window. It has a split heat air conditioner system and although the indoor units work fine, the outdoor unit does not. It is rusted but could be an easy fix. I don't know. The window unit cools more than adequately and its location in the home is hardly noticeable. This cottage, unlike others, has a second 36” door in the rear. It has 8' ceilings. The outer walls are 2 X 6 and well insulated. The floor joists are 2 X 10. It is on 4 axles. The roof is steel and in great shape. There have been no leaks. The siding is cement. I love this little house. It is not perfect but it is very homey. My family is expanding and I need a bigger place.
