This is a straight-forward, rustic-style tiny house, reminiscent of a hunting cabin in the woods. It was built intentionally low-tech for off-grid living. It has been occupied for almost 3 years. It was designed and built by a couple who care about maintaining a small footprint. Because of this, many of the materials were reclaimed. The home is heated with a combination wood stove/baking oven, shipped special order from a artisan in the UK. It is furnished with a propane Atwood cook-top, a 30 gallon gravity fed, water pump assisted sink, 8 foot picture window, wet bath with bucket composting toilet, and potential for grid power connection, and/or solar/wind/hydro electrical inputs, insulated floor (along with walls and ceiling of course!), two lofts (sleeping and storage/utility), space for a large mini-fridge, an additional swing-down counter top extension, 20 amp/2 circuit electrical wiring with access to outlets on the main floor and in the sleeping loft, cedar shake exterior walls with a Sikkens water-proof finish, metal roof and ridge vent, and interior walls and ceiling made with naturally finished reclaimed pallet and fence wood. The counter and sleeping lofts are tongue-and-groove oak wood flooring. Includes 4 Towmax tires.
Things to consider:
-The door will have to be replaced eventually. We lived in it planning on replacing it eventually, but life has gotten in the way of that.
-We constructed this house with longevity and stability in mind. We exceeded all required building codes, consulting the IBC and local codes. We chose to use GRK Structural screws instead of nails during construction to better deal with the movements and structural stresses involved during transport.
